DIICOT has conducted 65 searches related to a criminal group accused of stealing around 70 cargo shipments across Europe, particularly from Belgium. The investigation involves serious charges including organized crime, fraud, and money laundering. The group, formed in March 2024, utilized various companies to secure transport contracts and then fraudulently appropriated the goods. They employed tactics such as switching trailers and falsely reporting thefts to conceal their actions. The estimated total loss from these activities is around 9 million euros. Authorities from Romania and Belgium have established a Joint Investigation Team to address the cross-border nature of the crimes.
