Sporting Lisbon is set to change its coach mid-season, with Paulo Fonseca as the leading candidate to take over. Currently coaching Olympique Lyonnais, Fonseca is expected to join Sporting after their Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk. Reports indicate he has informed his Lyon players about his departure, leaving the pitch in tears after a recent match. He will replace interim coach Tiago Fernandes. Sporting is currently third in Portugal, trailing FC Porto by nine points, and has six points from three Champions League matches, sitting 12th in their group.
