The National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) proposes a gross minimum wage of 4,652 lei by 2027, highlighting that about one-third of full-time employees earn only slightly above the current minimum wage. BNS reports that 1.71 million workers earn no more than 5% above the minimum, with one in four still earning around the minimum wage two years after the EU directive on adequate minimum wages was implemented. Romania ranks 20th out of 22 EU countries in minimum wage levels, currently at 825 euros for the second half of 2026. The union calls for a transparent mechanism for wage increases without freezing salaries or imposing fiscal measures that could diminish the impact of the raise. Discussions on the minimum wage level included government and parliament representatives, moderated by BNS president Dumitru Costin.
