Schaeffler AG plans to cut 3,460 jobs and close five factories in Europe due to declining demand for combustion engine vehicles and slow EV adoption. The company aims to save around 300 million euros annually by 2030, with exceptional costs estimated at 480 million euros. The layoffs will primarily affect Germany, where about 2,660 employees will be let go, representing 9% of its workforce there. Schaeffler also operates in Romania, where it has recently merged two entities without affecting operational continuity.
