The EU and UK have finalized an agreement to remove post-Brexit controls on food and animal product imports and exports, effective by 2028. This is a positive development for British food exporters, whose trade with Europe has significantly declined since 2019. Small UK shops will again be able to purchase small quantities of cheeses and wines. The agreement, which spans 200 pages, will be presented to EU ambassadors for discussion. Additionally, a youth mobility program is under negotiation, and there are ongoing discussions regarding tuition fees for EU students. The delay in implementation is due to the need for the UK to align its food legislation with EU standards, potentially reigniting past disputes over regulatory independence.
