Five national trade union confederations are requesting an increase in the minimum gross salary from 4,325 to 5,000 lei starting January 1, 2027. They will meet with Prime Minister Luca Niculescu to discuss this proposal and the need for a National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue. The proposed increase would benefit around 720,000 full-time employees currently earning the minimum wage. However, employer representatives oppose the raise, warning it could lead to higher prices for consumers. The Minister of Finance stated that salary decisions will depend on available fiscal space and the 2027 budget, with a decision expected after the second budget revision in November.
