New regulations have been adopted regarding unclaimed deposits in Romania's Deposit-Return System (SGR), ensuring that unclaimed funds are used for system operations. The government approved these changes to clarify how the SGR administrator, RetuRO, calculates unclaimed amounts annually. Consumers pay a 50 bani deposit for eligible packaging, which can be reclaimed upon return. If not returned, the deposit remains in the system. The new rules also address the handling of expired vouchers issued by collection machines, which, if unused, contribute to unclaimed deposits. These funds are not distributed to shareholders but are reinvested to enhance system efficiency.
