Romania is considering administrative reform to reduce the number of towns and communes. A report reveals that 22 communes in Alba County, with populations under 1,500, collectively pay over €5 million in salaries for 20,000 residents. These communes do not meet legal population requirements and may face dissolution. The report highlights that 432 communes nationwide fail to meet demographic criteria, representing 15% of the total. Additionally, 119 towns do not meet the minimum population of 10,000. The financial burden of maintaining these small communes raises questions about their sustainability.
