Women in Spain will soon have access to a special medical leave for menopause-related health issues, approved by the government on October 20. This leave requires a medical diagnosis confirming the incapacity to work due to menopause symptoms. Unlike regular medical leave, which starts compensation from the fourth day, this new leave will begin payment from the next day. Employers will pay full salary on the first day, followed by 60% from the second to the twentieth day, and 75% from the twenty-first day. The new regulation eliminates the previous requirement of 180 days of contributions for eligibility. This reform aims to address long-neglected health issues affecting women in the workplace, with the new provisions effective from December 1, 2026.
