Anastase Dragomir, a Romanian inventor, is recognized for his pioneering work in pilot ejection systems, which have saved countless lives in aviation. His innovations, developed during the interwar period, included the concept of a catapultable cabin, allowing pilots to escape from crashing aircraft. After studying in France, he patented a parachute system for aircraft in 1930, which was later refined into a successful ejection mechanism tested in 1929. Despite his significant contributions, Dragomir remained largely unknown and passed away in 1966, witnessing the adoption of his inventions in modern aviation without receiving due credit.
