Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway's Queen Mette-Marit, may be released from custody and have his electronic monitoring device removed while awaiting his appeal against a conviction for rape and other offenses. An Oslo court ruled in his favor, but the decision is subject to review by a higher court. This ruling does not annul his conviction but addresses the restrictions until the appeal is resolved. Høiby was sentenced to four years in prison in June 2026 and has contested the ruling, with the appeal process set to begin in February 2027. If the higher court upholds the decision, he will still have to comply with certain obligations, including regular police check-ins and drug testing.
