A recent agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin for Russian diesel deliveries has led to a fuel shortage in northwestern Russia. In St. Petersburg, diesel availability has dropped to under 40% at gas stations, down from about 70% at the end of October, causing long queues and fuel limits. An economist suggests logistical issues arose after redirecting fuel for export. Diesel shortages have also been reported in Sverdlovsk and Tambov regions. Trump announced the deal on October 9, stating Russia would supply significant diesel quantities to U.S. and global markets. However, U.S. companies are wary of legal repercussions from trading Russian diesel, which is banned under sanctions. The U.S. is a net exporter of diesel, making the agreement potentially detrimental to American firms.
