Bulgaria faces a challenging winter as the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has approved a 32.52% increase in gas prices for households and heating suppliers starting November 2026. The new rate will be 58.43 euros per megawatt-hour, excluding additional charges. Despite international energy prices soaring, the commission rejected a higher proposed rate and urged Bulgargaz to find cost-saving measures. To mitigate the price hike, Bulgargaz has tapped into additional reserves from the Chiren underground gas storage. Without these measures, the increase could have reached nearly 40%. The approved tariff includes various components related to gas supply and storage costs.
