Romanian courts have suspended or annulled contracts worth over 11 billion lei related to the SAFE European program due to procedural irregularities. These contracts, signed hastily by authorities, faced legal challenges from construction companies citing lack of transparency and evaluation issues. The courts intervened in multiple procurement procedures for major infrastructure projects, questioning the legitimacy of the awarded contracts. Notably, a contract worth approximately 3.93 billion lei with FCC Construcción was suspended, revealing no work had been executed despite its signing. The National Company for Road Infrastructure (CNIR) acknowledged the absence of any billed services, attributing the situation to ongoing litigation and procedural disputes.
