Japan has established a new national disaster management agency to enhance preparedness for potential megathrust earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Over 350 personnel will oversee emergency response and reconstruction efforts. This initiative addresses concerns following the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The agency aims to fill a gap in disaster management, as Japan has never had a dedicated organization for this purpose. Minister Goshi Hosono emphasized the importance of strengthening disaster readiness and urged citizens to assess their homes for earthquake resilience. Despite these efforts, there are worries about the nation's overall preparedness for future disasters.
