On November 2, 2023, Romania commemorates 172 years since the death of Anton Pann, a significant figure in music and literature. A memorial service was held at the Church of St. Stelian in Bucharest, attended by clergy and members of the Tronos choir. The National Museum of Romanian Literature hosted the first Anton Pann Symposium, discussing his contributions to religious music and literature. Born in Sliven, Bulgaria, Pann moved to Chișinău and then Bucharest, where he studied music. He played a crucial role in promoting Romanian church music and is credited with the national anthem's melody, although its origins are debated. Pann is also known for his collections of proverbs and folk tales.
