The Foundation for the Defense of Citizens Against State Abuses is taking steps to uncover how much Romanians overpaid on bank loans due to artificial ROBOR index increases and to identify legal solutions for recovering these funds. While banks seek to suspend penalties imposed by the Competition Council in closed court sessions, affected citizens continue to bear the financial burden. For eight years, families were misled into believing that rising loan rates were due to market conditions, while banks coordinated their actions and exchanged confidential information during the ROBOR index establishment. The fines imposed on banks will go to the state budget, with no compensation for affected citizens. FACIAS aims to ensure transparency in court proceedings and will request the Competition Council to disclose details about the sanctioned practices and their impact on ROBOR. The foundation is committed to helping citizens recover the excess amounts paid due to banks' abusive practices.
