Starting May 19, 2027, Austria will implement significant changes to vehicle technical inspections, including the elimination of the four-month grace period after expiration. The new regulations will affect all vehicle owners, not just those purchasing new cars. The inspection frequency will also change, transitioning from a 3-2-1 system to a 4-2-2-2-1 system, allowing longer intervals for new vehicles. Drivers will no longer be able to postpone inspections past the expiration date, which particularly impacts those who scheduled checks during the grace period. Transitional measures will apply for vehicles due for inspection in early 2027, allowing some flexibility until November 2027.
