The FBI has accused North Korea of being behind a major cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchange Binance, resulting in a theft of $6.3 billion in digital assets. The attack, described as complex, involved hackers accessing Binance's hot wallets. The FBI labeled this cyber activity as "TraderTraitor" and noted that the stolen assets are being converted into Ethereum for laundering. TraderTraitor is linked to the North Korean state-sponsored Lazarus Group, known for cryptocurrency thefts since at least 2020. Following the attack, Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals while securing funds and collaborating with authorities. The company has covered about 90% of the stolen amount and is gradually resuming withdrawals, assuring users that their assets are safe.
