Employees who did not take their vacation days in 2026 have until June 30, 2028, to request them. The Romanian Labor Code allows for unused vacation days to be taken within 18 months after the year they were accrued. Compensation in cash for unused vacation is only permitted upon termination of employment. A ruling by the High Court clarifies that vacation days do not automatically expire if the employer did not encourage their use. However, if the employer made efforts to schedule the vacation and the employee refused, the right to those days may be lost.
