The National Environmental Guard is testing a new evaluation methodology for its commissariats, focusing on compliance and legal sanction maintenance rather than just fines. In the first nine months of 2026, the Guard issued 5,919 fines totaling over 171 million lei, a significant increase from the previous year. The new criteria aim to assess the effectiveness of environmental controls and include compliance rates and timely resolution of complaints. Minister Natalia Intotero emphasized the importance of recognizing the risks faced by inspectors in the field and the need for a collaborative effort to enhance the Guard's performance.
