NASA has released an audio fragment capturing real sound waves from the Perseus galaxy cluster, located 250 million light-years away. This sound, originating from a pulsating light source known as GPM J1839–10, has puzzled scientists since 1988 due to its intermittent signals every 21 minutes. Although space is mostly silent, the gas density in Perseus allowed scientists to detect these sound waves, which were amplified to be audible. The resulting eerie sound, akin to a cosmic baritone, opens new avenues for understanding the universe through 'sonification' of astronomical data, suggesting more extraterrestrial rhythms may be discovered in future explorations.
