The EU's new taxes on low-value e-commerce shipments, particularly from Chinese platforms, could generate nearly €6 billion annually from 2028 to 2034. Starting November 1, a €2 processing fee will be added to low-cost shipments, following a €3 fee introduced in July. This aims to address unfair competition and improve customs controls, as many shipments are undervalued to evade duties. The revenue estimate considers a potential decrease in imports as merchants adjust. About 90% of the collected funds will go to the EU budget, with 10% for member states. The new tax is intended to combat cheap imports that do not meet EU standards, enhancing customs modernization and market protection.
