The Romanian government will eliminate the 25 lei tax on packages valued under 150 euros from outside the EU starting November 1, 2026. This decision coincides with the EU's introduction of a new processing fee of 2 euros, alongside an existing customs duty of 3 euros. The changes primarily affect purchases from international platforms like Temu and Shein. The aim is to avoid overlapping taxes and streamline customs processes. While the national tax is removed, the new EU fees will still apply, impacting the overall cost of low-value imports. This reform is part of a broader effort to adapt to the growing e-commerce market and ensure fair competition with European retailers.
