The story of Argos, Odysseus's dog, highlights the emotional bond between animals and humans. After 20 years apart, Argos recognizes Odysseus, showcasing the potential for long-term memory in dogs. Modern studies suggest dogs can identify their owners by voice and scent, indicating a strong emotional connection. Research also shows that dogs may produce more tears upon reuniting with their owners, reflecting physiological responses to attachment. While Argos's recognition of Odysseus raises questions about canine memory, scientific evidence on long-term memory remains inconclusive. The tale resonates with real-life stories of loyalty, such as Hachikō, an Akita known for waiting for his deceased owner for nearly a decade.
