The European Commission has requested member states to pause national laws restricting minors' access to social media until a unified EU regulation is negotiated. This decision affects Austria, which has expressed strong opposition. The proposed 'Kids Act' aims to set a common standard across the EU, limiting access for children under 13 and severely restricting it for those under 15. While some countries have already implemented similar laws, Austria plans to expedite its legislative process despite the EU's suspension. Greece may retain its law as it was submitted before the EU proposal. Romania has also called for legislation to protect minors online.
