Domestic violence incidents in Romania have increased by 27% in the first nine months of 2026, totaling 46,741 cases. The majority of these cases involved physical assaults and threats. Police issued 15,433 provisional protection orders, with 5,474 confirmed by courts. Authorities intervened in nearly 117,000 domestic violence cases, with a significant number occurring in rural areas. The rise in reported incidents reflects greater victim trust in law enforcement. Electronic monitoring for aggressors has been implemented to enhance victim protection and ensure compliance with court orders.
