The Metinvest Tubular factory in Iași, owned by Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, will close, resulting in the layoff of 194 employees. The company cited disruptions caused by the Russian attacks in 2026 and increased raw material costs as reasons for the closure. Employees with over 10 years of service will receive compensation, and they will have a notice period of at least 20 working days to seek new employment. The factory, previously part of ArcelorMittal, had financial struggles, reporting significant losses in 2024. Despite initial recruitment efforts after the acquisition, the company has now decided to cease operations.
