The Romanian government will abolish the 25 lei tax on packages valued under 150 euros from outside the EU starting November 1, 2026. This decision coincides with the EU's introduction of a new processing fee of 2 euros, alongside an existing customs duty of 3 euros. The changes primarily affect purchases from international platforms like Temu and Shein. The aim is to align with EU regulations and avoid overlapping tax obligations. The 25 lei tax was initially implemented to manage the influx of low-value imports, but its removal is necessary due to new EU tax mechanisms. A transitional regime will apply for packages delivered before the new rules take effect.
