In 1956, students from the Polytechnic Institute in Timișoara protested against the Soviet invasion and totalitarianism. They gathered to voice their demands, which were sent to the Communist Party. Recently, a conference commemorating this event was held at the same location, featuring Ioan Holender, a former student involved in the protests. Holender reflected on the events, suggesting that their significance is sometimes overstated. He shared his personal experience of being expelled from the university, which led to his emigration to Austria. The conference aimed to honor the memory of those who fought for freedom and democratic values.
