Recent renovations at Roebuck Castle revealed remnants of a medieval fortress believed lost. Archaeologist Tadhg O’Keeffe and his team uncovered original fragments beneath layers from past renovations. The castle, thought to have been built in the 13th century, served as both residence and fortress, hosting notable figures like the deposed King James II. Artist Gabriel Beranger depicted the castle in ruins in 1765, capturing its deteriorated state. O’Keeffe's findings indicate that medieval elements still exist beneath the Victorian facade, providing insights into the castle's history. Further research is needed to pinpoint the exact construction date of its oldest parts.
