The Romanian government will eliminate the 25 lei tax on packages valued under 150 euros from outside the EU starting November 1, 2026. This decision coincides with the EU's introduction of a new 2 euro processing fee and a 3 euro customs duty for such packages. The changes primarily affect purchases from international platforms like Temu and Shein. The aim is to avoid overlapping tax obligations while addressing the growing volume of low-value imports. The new EU regulations will impose these fees regardless of the removal of the national tax, impacting the overall cost for consumers. A transitional regime will apply for packages delivered before the new rules take effect.
