In 2026, producers and importers of beverages face increased management fees for packaging under the Returnable Deposit System (SGR), with metal packaging fees doubling. The fee for metal packaging rose from 0.0111 lei to 0.0225 lei, a 103% increase, while plastic fees increased by about 40%. Glass packaging fees for containers up to 500 ml increased by approximately 55%. The rise in fees is attributed to a higher return rate of packaging, reducing unclaimed guarantee revenues. The fee structure aims to support the system's financing, with significant changes in the proportions of unclaimed guarantees and management fees. In contrast, larger glass containers saw a fee reduction due to the removal of penalties for recycling targets. Over 4.1 billion packages were returned in the first nine months of 2026, achieving an 85% collection rate.
