Starting January 1, 2030, the EU will enforce new packaging regulations aimed at reducing waste and promoting recycling. Member states must cut packaging waste per capita by at least 5% from 2018 levels. All packaging, except certain materials, must be recyclable and economically viable. Reusable packaging will also become mandatory, with a target of 10% for beverage containers. Additionally, empty space in packaging cannot exceed 50%, and the HORECA sector must offer at least 10% of products in reusable containers. Single-use plastic items, like thin plastic bags, will be banned, with some exceptions.
