The Romanian industry faces a significant setback as Metinvest Tubular Iași, a factory in Iași, will close, leading to mass layoffs due to raw material shortages caused by the war in Ukraine. The company, owned by Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Ahmetov, has struggled with supply chain disruptions since Russian attacks began. Nearly all of the factory's 195 employees will be affected, with only the general manager's position remaining. The factory had previously attempted to source materials from European suppliers, but costs were prohibitively high. A collective dismissal procedure has been initiated, and affected employees will receive compensation based on their tenure. The factory's operations had already been largely halted due to the lack of raw materials.
