Finland plans to establish a military space operations center at Tikkakoski Air Force base by January 1, 2027, as announced by Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen. The center will oversee the Finnish Defense Forces' space activities, including military capabilities development and operations, while coordinating with NATO and partner nations. Initially staffed by around 20 military and civilian personnel, the workforce is expected to grow over time. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance Finland's defense capabilities as space becomes an increasingly vital operational domain. Finland's military space capabilities will include three synthetic aperture radar satellites acquired from ICEYE, with operational control expected by April 2027.
