Mary Anderson invented windshield wipers in the early 1900s while riding a tram in New York during snowy weather. Her design featured an interior lever controlling a rubber blade to clear the windshield. Despite obtaining a patent in 1903, her invention was initially dismissed by manufacturers. Eventually, windshield wipers became standard in cars, with Cadillac adopting them in 1922. Although Anderson did not profit from her invention, she succeeded as an entrepreneur, managing properties and a farm before her death in 1953.
