The European Commission has established the advisory group "preparEU" to enhance EU preparedness for natural disasters and crises. This group will provide strategic advice to key EU officials and assess how Europe can better respond to disaster risks, including extreme weather events. Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for improved coordination and resources to ensure effective civil protection across the EU. The group will consist of 11 high-level experts and will evaluate existing capacities within the EU's civil protection framework. Their recommendations are expected by spring 2027, following their first meeting in November 2026.
