Eleven EU member states have committed to releasing 20.5 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves by January 2027 due to ongoing instability in the Middle East affecting fuel supply. This decision follows a G7 declaration on energy security and an urgent call to action from the International Energy Agency (IEA). The initiative, presented by France's Energy Minister, aims to increase short-term oil and refined product supply. Although the EU does not foresee physical shortages, rising prices may limit access for vulnerable populations. The release of strategic stocks is seen as a temporary measure to alleviate market pressures, with calls for better monitoring of released volumes and types of products.
