Hackers stole approximately $6.3 billion in cryptocurrencies from Binance, the largest trading platform, in a historic breach. The theft occurred in about 20 minutes, with funds taken from digital wallets used for transactions. Initial investigations suggested a compromised laptop of a DevOps engineer allowed unauthorized withdrawals. Binance assured users that their funds are safe and losses will be covered by their SAFU fund. Approximately half of the stolen assets, mainly stablecoins, have been blocked by issuing companies. The attack bears similarities to previous operations attributed to North Korean hackers, although Binance has not confirmed the attackers' identities. The incident has impacted cryptocurrency markets, causing price declines.
