A significant EU country plans to implement a mandatory digital vignette for highways and main roads starting May 1, 2027, affecting all vehicle owners. The cost will vary based on the vehicle's pollution level, with annual fees estimated between 90 and 125 euros. Electric and low-emission vehicles will pay less, while older, polluting vehicles will incur higher charges. Short-term vignettes will also be available for tourists. A grace period will allow warnings for the first two months, but fines will be enforced from July 1, 2027, starting at 70 euros. The government assures that collected funds will be used for infrastructure improvements.
