President Nicușor Dan has sent a law back to Parliament for reconsideration, which allows financial incentives for installing fossil fuel heating systems in buildings connected to centralized heating. He argues that this legislation may conflict with Romania's European obligations and could lead to infringement procedures. The law, which aims to implement an EU directive on energy performance in buildings, was previously deemed constitutional by the Constitutional Court. However, the president emphasizes the need for Parliament to reassess the legislative solution's compatibility with EU obligations and its environmental impact. He warns that financial support for fossil fuel systems could hinder the transition to cleaner heating alternatives.
