Romania's state budget has seen a shortfall of 750 million lei in gambling tax revenues due to new licensing regulations. The Ministry of Finance reported this discrepancy in its first budget rectification project. The new law requires local authorizations for gambling operations, complicating compliance for many operators. As a result, less than half of registered gaming machines are currently in use. Additionally, the overall budget deficit is projected at 130.3 billion lei, with significant shortfalls in other tax categories as well. However, VAT and income tax revenues exceeded expectations.
