AUR has proposed a legislative initiative to address the issue of local and county councilors who, after being expelled from their parties, can retain their mandates for extended periods while legal disputes drag on. The bill, introduced by AUR deputy Georgel Badiu, aims to establish strict deadlines and expedite the resolution of appeals against expulsions, ensuring the right to defense is preserved. The initiative stipulates a 10-day period for contesting expulsion decisions, with courts required to prioritize these cases. If a court ultimately rejects the appeal, the councilor's mandate will cease, allowing the next candidate on the list to take over. This measure seeks to enhance accountability and restore public trust in the political system.
