In Romania, nearly half of individuals with type 2 diabetes may be undiagnosed. The Caravana cu Medici Association is conducting the campaign "Fără diabet – Conectăm România rurală la sănătate" to improve healthcare access in rural areas. By September, they reached over 90 localities and assessed more than 8,400 patients. The initiative fosters collaboration between local authorities and healthcare professionals to facilitate access to medical services for those diagnosed or at risk of diabetes. The campaign includes regional meetings and online training for community nurses to enhance diabetes detection. Challenges identified include a lack of trust in the healthcare system and insufficient medical personnel in rural areas. The campaign aims to create local support networks and propose public policy changes to improve healthcare access for diabetic patients.
