Eleven years after the Colectiv tragedy, Romania still lacks a center for severe burn victims, despite ongoing construction of three facilities. The tragic event in 2015 resulted in 65 deaths, highlighting the urgent need for specialized care. Currently, centers are being built in Timișoara, Târgu-Mureș, and Bucharest, with varying degrees of construction progress. The Timișoara center is nearly complete, while the others are still under development. Operational dates are projected for early to late 2027, with funding for medical equipment expected from European sources. Once operational, these centers will significantly increase the capacity for treating severe burn patients in Romania.
