Tesco is selling its operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, expecting to generate €1.2 billion in net proceeds. The company plans to return most of this amount to shareholders through a share buyback program. This move follows a review of its Central and Eastern European operations, which employ over 22,000 people. Tesco has been working with Goldman Sachs and Citi to explore options for its businesses in these regions. The sale marks a significant step as Tesco has divested much of its international presence since 2014. Meanwhile, Ahold Delhaize completed the acquisition of Romanian retailer Profi for approximately €1.3 billion.
