In the first nine months of 2026, Romania issued 24,016 building permits for residential buildings, marking a 15.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. In September 2026 alone, 2,225 permits were issued, down 24.4% from August 2026, with a total usable area of 680,611 square meters, a 5.7% decline. The majority of permits (68.5%) were for rural areas. All development regions experienced a drop in residential permits, with the Center region showing a slight increase. For non-residential buildings, 420 permits were issued in September 2026, reflecting a 25.9% decrease from the previous month. Year-on-year comparisons also show significant declines in both residential and non-residential permits and usable areas across all regions.
