In the first nine months of 2026, the National Environmental Guard issued fines totaling over 171 million lei, a significant increase compared to the previous year. The annual meeting highlighted the need for improved performance evaluation criteria for inspectors, set to be implemented in 2027. The new methodology will assess compliance levels, legal proceedings, and the resolution of complaints, alongside traditional metrics. Minister Natalia Intotero emphasized the importance of recognizing the risks faced by environmental inspectors and fostering a collaborative effort to enhance the institution's effectiveness. The meeting also addressed practical control measures, including the use of drones for monitoring pollution risks and illegal waste management.
