Romania continues to send burn patients abroad for treatment, with 89 patients treated in the last five years. The state has spent over 11 million euros on their care. Three specialized burn centers are under construction and expected to open next year. The National Health Insurance House reported that treatment costs for these patients are reimbursed according to EU regulations. However, the portable S2 document only covers certain costs, excluding transportation and accommodation. The construction progress of the new centers shows varying completion rates, with the Timișoara center nearly finished and expected to open in early 2027.
